Welcome to the Speedlab, which is now the home of the former Steve's Turbo Regal Website and Steve's Mustang Cobra Homepage, which have been online in various iterations since 1995. Check back often to see what is going on in the Speedlab as the quest for more 'real street' power continues!

This website is dedicated to real street performance and my current modern muscle cars, a 1987 Buick Regal Turbo T and my 1996 Ford Mustang Cobra. Both cars see a lot of time in Cedar Crest Speedlab, which is actually the name of my home garage. You can find me in there tinkering with one or the other car a lot of the time. I take a lot of pride in my vehicles and one look at them will be proof of that.

A 1995 issue of Car Craft actually got me turned on to Turbo Regals. My Buick is not driven daily and it makes regular visits on the car show circuit. It is a rare car and it gets a lot of attention everywhere it goes. People that know the real story behind these cars can appreciate how well preserved and potent the heavy car with a little V6 can be. It has great street manners, but it can unleash a fury of torque when needed! It is driven fairly regularly in the summer months since cars were meant to be driven.

The Mustang Cobra is driven regularly during the summer and is basically a fair weather driver. I have kept it mostly stock, so it is pretty tame for street duty. It is kept as clean as possible and many people can't believe the car is a 1996. The car sees regular wash and wax and is maintained to a high level.

What is Cedar Crest Speedlab? Is it a business?

Cedar Crest Speedlab is simply a nickname for my home garage, where I enjoy honing my shade tree mechanic skills. I consider myself a pretty good mechanic and very rarely will you see one of my vehicles in a shop. I prefer to handle virtually everything with my vehicles so I know it was done right. Honestly, there are very few people who I would trust to work on my Buick. I actually have Cedar Crest Speedlab T-shirts if anyone is crazy enough to want one. They are one of a kind!

The Buick is currently in the lab getting ready for the SpringFest Car Show on May 6. I am currently tuning it and detailing it for the show, which takes a good amount of time. Hopefully the weather report stays clear for Sunday, but it doesn't sound too promising. If it rains, I can't break my 14 year rainless streak!

Update: It did rain, so I did not attend.

The Cobra is out of storage and ready for another summer of driving. I need to get some new front tires since I had an alignment problem that wore the outer edges really quickly. eBay, here I come.

The Buick has been prepped for storage and is now under wraps for the winter. Luckily I got a really good deal on Joe Gibbs Driven Hot Rod Oil at Advance Auto. They aren't stocking it anymore so I bought what was left at a deep discount. It has more zinc for added protection in flat tappet cam equipped cars, like my Turbo Regal. It's going to be a long winter...

Today was a busy day. I outfitted the Cobra with an American Thunder Flowmaster Super 44 system and put a new DS header on the Buick.

The Turbo Regal placed first in Street Machines 1983 - Present at the 2011 Black Hawk County Street Machines Spring Fest Car Show at the Isle of Capri Casino. Although it was downright cold and windy, it was a great car show with lots of nice entries. Read more...
